Models (Pre GT)
Jr. [17.5″ Top Tube]
Pro
Pro 24″
26″ (3-Bar)

**I think thats it. If I ever find test scans from the magazines for Powerlite I will ad them for each model.

Early Powerlites ’77-78 had square brake bridges.
’79 and later had a slotted brake bridge.
It seems both the Pro and Jr. were available with Euro BB’s
Correct me if Im wrong on that.
Jrs. cam stock with Euro BB and Pro was an option.
1977-81 bike had a front gusset with hole.
1982 and on they dropped the gusset.

Again feel free to add to this.

I have a powerlight bike that says Highschool on it. Does anyone know anything about this bike? Age, worth or really anything.
    Thanks

    • May 3, 2011 at 3:37 am

Pictures are needed. It could be an actually late model when they made Freestyle bikes. Or Highschool could just be a sticker, as in fact could any Powerlite stickers on it. Try the BMX Museum or Vintage BMX and post pictures asking for help IDing. Worth will only get you booed. Its worth what people are willing to pay, to get max value sell it on eBay but shipping will cost a bit. So often complete bikes sell better on Craigslist. If its a modern bike it wont be worth too much.

i got a powerlite black bike dont know make i got a seial number YC96060161

    • May 26, 2011 at 4:49 am

Its almost certainly a 1996 model.
Other then that would need to see pictures of it and top tube lengths etc to narrow down the model. They made both AL and 4130 frames even.

CurIous what year this Powerlite is? Serial #05970341

  16. April 29, 2012 at 11:32 pm

Not sure , cant tell a model from the serial number usually. If it has a P stamped on it that would be good or an XL. If it has canti mounts etc then it probably is a 97. I think all the bikes by then except maybe the lowest models had canti mounts. To lazy to look. Generally speaking the higher the number the better the model.
A P51 is better bike then a P19 for example without looking to be sure lol.
Powerlite never really made a bad bike, but none of them command too much money when sold. It also depends on its parts etc.

Is ‘ball burnished’ another way of saying polished in terms of describing the frame?

You left out the SRX model. I own one that I am restoring. I’m not sure what year I bought it. I think its an ’83 or ’85. I mail ordered the frame/forks and bars direct from Powerlite.

    • July 26, 2012 at 2:39 pm

      What was the SRX model?
Was it bigger or smaller then the Pro? What colors did it come in. Was it complete bike or frame set etc.

      • September 11, 2012 at 6:57 pm

Sorry I didnt check the notify box! Its an expert. Its smaller than a pro. Same goes for the expert bars. The frame has a 18.5 TT. As far as i know Powerlite did not sell complete bikes. Go to: bmx-recollection.com, click on bike & product tests, and scroll down the list. There is a pdf from an old bmx magazine test of the SRX. It has alot of info.

I have a power lite ditch model #P1000TG not sure how old it is the date code is CMP1117JC if you could let me know what year it was made and where i can order parts for it that would be great

    • October 10, 2012 at 6:23 am

Well Its my guess that the date code is 1 for 2001. But that would be the build year and not perhaps the model year.
If 11 is a month code then it would be a 2002 model. Just an educated guess.
Any GT dealer may still have some old parts lying in the back room, check there and of course on eBay.

Hi I’m about to submit my Powerlite into the BMX museum and I’m almost sure about what model I have but I thought I would check with you all first OK the serial# 98500 I believe it to be 1978 Pro XL it’s my favorite bike to ride and I would kill for a set of forks that match the frame . I am not quite period correct on my componants , but it a bike that’s riden almost every day . I have S&M 11s for my handle bars , a GT layed back . I have one piece Redline cranks with a Crupi chain ring . I have a set of Sinz 20 1 1/8 rims , and my stem is an old school Dyno that’s really skinny looks like the DK ones . When I put those S&M bars on it with layed back seat post that’s when it felt like a glove to me . I just fit perfect and don’t look awkward riding a 20″ at my age . It’s like a smooth and fast ride it’s always tuned before every ride I pay about 20 min worth of my time going through everything cause I take long rides and don’t like to carry anything not absolutely essential to the ride.
